What Is The Bible?

You could knock on many doors and ask what books are in those houses. Few would have the same books. Fewer would have the same book that was over 100 years old. Most of the houses, however, would have a form of one of the oldest and most popular of all books, the Bible.

What is this book that so many have, cherish and some even ridicule? It is not just a book; it is the preserved Word of God. It is the road map through a difficult life. It tells of a saving plan that will give riches eternal. Its advice, when followed, will change one’s life and alter one’s future. It is the only Book that tells the mind of God. It is God’s Word.

  • The Bible is exactly what God wants us to know.
“And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD hath said will we do. And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.” Exodus 24:3-4

As Moses received God’s commands, and wrote them down, so  has God also used other godly men. The recorders of His word included kings, leaders, prophets, disciples, professional men and others. The Creator of this universe promised that we would always have his Word with us (Isaiah 40:8).

God promised that He would give us a perfect copy (Matthew 5:18). No words are to be added to or removed from it. Other than the King James Version, all of the other 250+ modern, English versions, violate the commands of God.
Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.” Deuteronomy 4:2  All other English translations and versions add, subtract, and alter many words to what God has originally said.
Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.” Proverbs 30:6
“For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” Revelation 22:18-19

  •  The Bible will always be made available to mankind.
“The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.” Deut. 29:29
“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.” Isaiah 40:8
  •   The Bible contains God’s promises.
“Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded to a thousand generations;” I Chronicles 16:15
  •  The Bible is His Word and our guidance.
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Psalm 119:11
  •   The Bible also contains:
    Prophecy
    Wisdom
    Songs
    History
    Examples.

A young Christian, packing his bag for a journey said to a friend, “I have nearly finished packing. All I have to put in are a guidebook, a lamp, a mirror, a microscope, a telescope, a volume of fine poetry, a few biographies, a package of old letters, a book of songs, a sword, a hammer, and a set of tools.”

“But you cannot put all that into your bag,” objected the friend.

“Oh, yes,” said the Christian. “Here it is.” And he placed his Bible in the corner of the suitcase and closed the lid. — Author Unknown

  1. As you know i read a lot of stuff quotes from others from their “bibles” and if i cant find the same thing in the Holy Bible [ yes KJV] i say something like one posts stuff from the NLB and i willsay where is the rest of the chapter verses or thats not what the Bible says and they sayit means the same thing i say not to me it doesnt .

    1. Good for you. If more would oppose the reckless manipulation of God’s Word, more would be less likely to use the perverted, altered new translations and versions.

  2. PS also i agree dont play with God’s word as God does not play games . I see many other Bibles where things are removed or added and even if it is just a comma or a peroid that should not be removed or added as it can change the meaning of something .

  3. Once some one told me oh the bible is written by men so how do i know it is true . I told them maybe man wrote it but God told them what to say in it .

  4. How fundamental to our faith in God this subject is…it is the basic disagreement that we have with almost any lost person. Is the Bible the word of God? or not? If it is, then that means it is true and means that there is a heaven and hell and a saviour that one must accept. Even among people that identify as Christian, there is contention on this point.
We must NEVER compromise on that central tenet, that the Bible is the inspired word of God!
