Why Christianity Is Opposed

There has always been animosity for those that live a lifestyle in accordance with the Bible. It is the same disdain that had Christ nailed to the cross. This resentment towards Christianity is certainly alive and doing terribly today. Ill feelings are particularly shown against Christians that are attempting to obey the Bible to the best of their ability and those that are making it public what the Bible teaches.

True biblical Christianity does not, nor has it ever been a physical threat (Do not say, Christianity has killed many. It was certain false religions, not true believers, that committed those atrocities). Christianity usually has improved nations, converted the sinner into a contributing member of society, given to worthy causes, helped the unfortunate, and done many other positive things.

Then why are so many voicing disdain against Christianity? Here is a brief examination as to why many oppose Christians and Christianity:

They may hate God. They may never say it with their mouth, but that is, many times, the root of their feelings against God.
“If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.” John 15:18  Also: I John 3:13

They may have guilt from their sin . Many deal with this guilt in different ways. Some, instead of stopping their sin, turn their hearts against the one that showed them their actions were biblically wrong. One that is living the proper, (most  know in their heart what is right and what is wrong) godly life many times heightens their guilt just by their godly lifestyle. They resent any light that is put on their dark iniquity.
“And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.” John 3:19-20

They are on the enemy’s side. There are two sides: God’s and Satan’s. People may be against the things of God, because they are against God and for Satan.
“He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.” Matthew 12:30
“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” John 8:44  Jesus was speaking to the ‘religious’ leaders at the time.

There is a spiritual battle raging; so expect skirmishes:
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12

They see hypocrisy. The unsaved, much of the time, have expectations of how a Christian should act. When they see the professing Christian not practicing what is preached or not living the way they are expected to, bitterness can be built up against Christianity.

One of the most damaging forces to the cause of Christ is the liberal church movement. They have removed much of the credibility, godliness, and character from Jesus’ own church, and the unsaved world clearly sees their hypocrisy and disobedience. We are to be an example for the cause of Christ in how we live our lives.
“Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.” Matthew 15:7-9

  1. Darkness hates the light. If you are a true follower of Christ, your very presence can be convicting to sinners. The speech you use, the way you dress, the way your mind frames things in a biblical context all the time challenge who they are……Even if you are perfectly sweet mannered.

    1. You’re right. I have been accused of “jamming the Jesus thing down our throats” and I never said a word about the Lord. It was their observation of my life style that convicted them.

  2. It is true so many churches yes even Baptists have gone the worldly way this is why i have no concept for religions . Then making their own rules not Gods is also wrong as you know Jesus called them hypocrites . The best “churches ” i have been to is the old timey tent meetings . Oh i take that back as also in the school i went to we had all religions in one church and none would try to out do the other . Only the teaching from from the KJB thats it .

    1. We’ve been down this road several times, but the church has been a blessing to me. When I had no family that I could turn to about spiritual matters, I always had the church family. I have loved every minute with them. Yes, there are always stinkers in every church. Why some probably think I am, ’cause we are all sinners. Although I am not the Christian I should be, I would not have gotten this far without a church — as imperfect as they all are. The local church has encouraged me, advised me, guided me, educated me, and given me many examples of how I should live. Those that don’t have a local church are missing a great joy!

  3. Last night at our revival meeting, the evangelist made the point that the spirits of Ahaz and Jezebel are still working in this world today. Those spirits are trying to destroy all things of God just as they tried to destroy Elijah and all God’s prophets all those thousands of years ago. They want to silence the truth. As time draws to a close, these spirits become more and more desperate to discredit and silence all who would proclaim God’s truth. There will always be opposing spirits warring against Christianity. However, the evangelist went on to point this out (and I love this!): For every Ahaz and Jezebel from the enemy, God provides an Elijah; for every Pharaoh, God provides a Moses; for every Goliath, a David! The enemy cannot stand against God. We, as Christians, have no need to feel discouraged or downhearted, for greater is He that is within us than he that is in the world! Praise God!
