Daily Nugget:
Like many other preachers, Paul warned those he had discipled of the dangers lurking to weaken or destroy their testimonies and intentions. Once we are saved, we cannot lose our salvation, but we certainly can be of no use to the cause of Christ.

Here are the preacher’s warnings to the Colossians concerning false teachings that could harm their walk for the Lord, including:

  • Not being “spoiled” (robbed) spiritually through humanistic, nonbiblical philosophies (Colossians 2:8). Most religions, and even many “Christian” denominations, teach what their church says or what a preacher thinks is right and not necessarily what the Scriptures teach. The only important teaching is not what you or I think is right, but “what saith the Lord” about any matter!
  • Not being robbed spiritually by believing other things are more important than the things of God and pleasing Him (“vain deceit” – Colossians 2:8).
  • Not being robbed of living the way God desires you to live because you follow the traditions of man rather than the way God wants you to live and think (Colossians 2:8).
  • Not being spiritually robbed by the principles (“rudiments”) taught by the world and unbiblical religions (Colossians 2:8).
  • Not trusting in Christ (Colossians 2:8).

Many treacherous traps in this world can snare and ruin even the most sincere Christians. We must constantly be wary of what we hear and are taught, comparing what is said to the Word of God. If what we hear is not exactly what the Bible teaches, it should be something we must avoid at all costs, or we will be spoiled!
