It occurred after the leader had been rebuked by Nathan, the prophet, for the leader\u2019s sins of adultery and allowing the death of a woman\u2019s husband (II Sam. 2:1-19).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">King David\u2019s iniquity, which he kept private, was made public by God\u2019s prophet, breaking the leader\u2019s heart.&nbsp;Although David lived with the guilt of his sins, Nathan\u2019s accusation changed the leader&#8217;s thinking.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most are also guilty of sin against God, but many hide it, forget about it, and never get it right with the Lord. David could not hide it any longer and did what every person in his situation should do.&nbsp;He was honest about sinning against God and repented (turned away from) his iniquities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although many, when caught or exposed with their hands in the sin jar, ignore guilty feelings (which may be the Holy Spirit bringing it to light so it can be dealt with) and justify it, David did not. Many say they are sorry, but there is never a change in their lives.&nbsp;The leader\u2019s admission of sin changed the King\u2019s life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">David knew he had crossed the sin-line (\u201ctransgressions\u201d \u2014 Psalm 51:1,3) God forbids all to pass. He recognized he had committed unrighteous behavior (\u201ciniquity\u201d\u2014 Psalm 51:2). He acknowledged his sin as \u201cevil\u201d (Psalm 51:4). The king knew he was responsible for Bathsheba&#8217;s husband&#8217;s shed blood (\u201cbloodguiltiness\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The leader recognized he could not take back the damage he had done, but David was so broken in spirit that he would never forget that transgression.&nbsp;Then, all he could do was beg for God\u2019s mercy (Psalm 51:1) in dealing with the matter, and the King did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So many are sorry they got caught in their sins but are not crushed nor repentant over what they did.&nbsp;From their actions and attitudes, it may appear that they would do it again; many do.&nbsp;However, when one is grieved over sinning against God and others, their heart usually changes.&nbsp;When a heart is altered, a life often changes as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All have sinned.&nbsp;We may be forgiven of our iniquities and have God\u2019s forgiveness but often our guilt is temporary and not life-changing. False sincerity does not fool God.&nbsp;He knows if we are ashamed of what we have done and if we mean to change our behavior to one that is pleasing to Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What truths does God know about how you feel about sinning against Him?&nbsp;Do you intend never to let it happen again, or is it a momentary flash of guilt that we will soon forget?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Today\u2019s Thought:<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>\u201cGod hath yoked to guilt a pale tormentor: misery.\u201d \u2014 William Bryant<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Words to Understand:<\/strong><br>Bathsheba: a woman that David committed adultery with<br>Bloodguiltiness: guilty of murder, \u201cblood on one\u2019s hands\u201d<br>Bullocks: young bulls<br>Evil: bad moral behavior that hurts and disturbs others because of a depraved, corrupt heart<br>Hyssop: aromatic herb<br>Iniquity: unrighteous behavior<br>Transgressions: crossing over the line of obeying moral laws and codes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Today\u2019s Reading:<\/strong><br><em>Psalm 51<br>1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.
