If they did commit trespasses, the righteous Judge in Heaven would deal with their iniquity. In Psalm 7, the king confessed to God that he expected to be judged if he violated God’s commandments.

Verses 3-5 show David’s examination of his heart. He told God that if he had done wrong to those who meant him no harm, he would not have expected any special treatment from God. He assumed the Lord would not protect and that the enemy would do its worst to him (vss. 5-6).

So often, many want God to be hard on another sinner but somehow give themselves a “get out of sin card” and believe they should not face God’s fair judgment. David said, “What is good for the goose is good for the gander.”

Expecting God’s stern and firm judgment for our iniquities will help keep us from sinful error. Realizing that we deserve God’s hand of discipline will also help us be more compassionate toward others when they fall.

All are sinners. None deserve anything but Hell. However, God and His mercy have allowed us not to get what we deserve.

We should strive to live righteously (vss. 10-11). If we obey God’s commandments and live the way He commands, there will be no need for His just discipline.

Today’s Thought:
“Do not be intolerant of someone just because they sin differently than you!”

Words to Understand:
Benjamite: Jewish tribe that originated from Jacob’s youngest son, Benjamin
Iniquity: sin, crime
Pate: top of the head
Shiggaion: a poem that rambles
Travaileth: to labor with difficulty or pain
Whet: sharpen by rubbing on a stone or abrasive

Today’s Reading:
Psalm 7
1 Shiggaion of David, which he sang unto the LORD, concerning the words of Cush the Benjamite.
