{"id":1245,"date":"2020-03-18T09:43:47","date_gmt":"2020-03-18T09:43:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.devotionsfromthebible.com\/dvblog\/?p=1245"},"modified":"2025-09-05T09:21:04","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T09:21:04","slug":"daily-devotion-of-proverbs-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.devotionsfromthebible.com\/dvblog\/proverbs\/daily-devotion-of-proverbs-21\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Devotion in Proverbs 21"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.devotionsfromthebible.com\/dvblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Prov-Hd-Color-1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Artwork from a 1611 KJV<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"http:\/\/www.devotionsfromthebible.com\/dvblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Prov21.mp3\"><\/audio><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>HEAR the devotion and KJV chapter.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Daily Nugget:<\/strong><br><em>&#8220;Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.&#8221; Proverbs 21:2<br>&#8220;All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.&#8221; Proverbs 16:2<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every person believes they know what is best for them.&nbsp;They usually decide what they think is right and good.&nbsp;However, their beliefs are often wrong in God&#8217;s eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unfortunately, with that self-centered philosophy and thinking, what is sinful and wrong to God often becomes acceptable and right, especially in godless minds.&nbsp;Many have not realized that if they reject God&#8217;s ways, their ideas and actions will frequently fail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Proverbs 21 reveals some consequences of refusing God&#8217;s ways and laws.&nbsp;The ungodly believe:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Their lies are often justified by what is thought to be achieved.\u00a0However, God will not bless ill-gotten gains; instead, they will find that their accomplishments will not last and may be a hindrance rather than beneficial.<br><em>&#8220;The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.&#8221; Proverbs 21:6<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gaining something without earning it or stealing is a faster way to get what they want. Unfortunately, their thievery will cost them more than they thought possible.\u00a0Many thieves behind prison bars will attest to that fact.<br><em>&#8220;The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.&#8221; Proverbs 21:7<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The one who lives in defiance of the way God commands will not reap consequences for their sin.\u00a0However, one may face loneliness and social rejection for their rebellion against God.\u00a0One may find oneself only associated with those in the same sinking &#8220;sin-boat&#8221; as they are.<br><em>&#8220;It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.&#8221; Proverbs 21:15<\/em><br><em>&#8220;The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.&#8221; Proverbs 21:10<br>&#8220;The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.&#8221; Proverbs 21:16<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They should be committed and determined to have &#8220;fun&#8221; while they can. However, it will be discovered that they have little to show for their lives.\u00a0What gives them temporary happiness will rob their life of having real meaning.<br><em>&#8220;He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.&#8221; Proverbs 21:17<br>&#8220;There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.&#8221; Proverbs 21:20<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is not necessary to work in this life.\u00a0However, those who refuse to labor will be destroyed and robbed of what could have been obtained.\u00a0Their laziness will cheat them of what they could have made of themselves.<br><em>&#8220;The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.&#8221; Proverbs 21:25<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Living a life contrary to God&#8217;s desires costs everyone a price that is often regretted.&nbsp;A godless life, one that is not governed by God&#8217;s commandments, is not the &#8220;easy&#8221; way of living.&nbsp;It creates more hurdles, difficulties, and problems than may be realized.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Live your life the way God commands.&nbsp;You will avoid many hardships and will have God&#8217;s perfect leadership along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Today\u2019s Thought:\u00a0<\/strong><br><em>\u201cIn all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.\u201d Proverbs 3:6<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Words to Understand:<\/strong><br>Contentious: disagreeable<br>Froward: not willing to do what is required; unmanageable; not willing to be obedient<br>Vanity: valueless, trivial thoughts or things<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Today\u2019s Reading:<\/strong><br><em>Proverbs 21<br>1 \u00b6 The king&#8217;s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.<br>2 \u00b6 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.<br>3 \u00b6 To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.<br>4 \u00b6 An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.<br>5 \u00b6 The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.<br>6 \u00b6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.<br>7 \u00b6 The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; but a foolish man spendeth it up.<br>21 \u00b6 He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.<br>22 \u00b6 A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.<br>23 \u00b6 Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.<br>24 \u00b6 Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.<br>25 \u00b6 The desire of the slothful killeth him;
