Many believe that some were sung while traveling to the Temple for worship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, like many Psalms, there is a practical, everyday application to be learned from this hymn.\u00a0 This song expresses the frustration caused by the damage done by deceitful lips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For many, dishonesty is not recognized for what it is; it is a sin.\u00a0 Like any sin, it causes harm to the offender and often to others. It is understandable why the hymn-writer would bemoan such misuse of one\u2019s lips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some reasons lying is harmful are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Relationships are built on trust. How could a person rely on or believe what another has said if they have a history of dishonesty? A relationship built on lies will usually crumble when the truth is discovered.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Often, decisions are made from the words of another.\u00a0 When the utterances are untrustworthy, others make wrong decisions based on what one has said. Not only will the liar lose respect, but those repeating their words will also be shamed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One of the most valuable possessions one can have is having a reputation for honesty.\u00a0 When one says they will do or did something and have not, the person\u2019s character will be soiled and usually not valued in the future.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communication is to learn the truth of a matter.\u00a0 When falsehoods are uttered, it is deception, not honest dialogue.\u00a0 No one asks for lies.\u00a0 Honesty is always expected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sin of lying has hurt more relationships and lives than ever imagined.
