{"id":1067,"date":"2019-11-01T10:11:10","date_gmt":"2019-11-01T10:11:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.devotionsfromthebible.com\/dvblog\/?p=1067"},"modified":"2025-06-10T08:58:41","modified_gmt":"2025-06-10T08:58:41","slug":"daily-devotion-of-psalm-107","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.devotionsfromthebible.com\/dvblog\/psalm\/daily-devotion-of-psalm-107\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Devotion in Psalm 107"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.devotionsfromthebible.com\/dvblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Psalms-539x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:437px;height:195px\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Artwork from a 1611 KJV.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"http:\/\/www.devotionsfromthebible.com\/dvblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Psalm107.mp3\"><\/audio><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>HEAR the devotion and KJV chapter.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Daily Nugget:<\/strong><br>Much of the good in our lives comes from the benevolent hands of God.&nbsp;However, He gets so little credit for what He has done.&nbsp;Psalm 107, along with many other hymns found in the Psalms, reminds the singer to proclaim to the unrealizing world for what we are thankful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This chapter starts eight of its 43 verses with \u201cO give thanks.\u201d Five times \u201cpraise\u201d and God\u2019s \u201cgoodness\u201d are mentioned in this Psalm.&nbsp;There is a great focus on counting our blessings and being thankful for what He has done in our lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among a plethora of what we should be grateful for, this chapter reminds us to be thankful for God\u2019s:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Goodness (Psalm 107:1, 8-9, 21, 31).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mercy (Psalm 107:1).\u00a0The previous chapter also reminded believers of God\u2019s generous, undeserved mercy.<br><em>\u201cPraise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.\u201d Psalm 106:1<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Redemption and deliverance (Psalm 107:2, 6, 8, 10, 13-14, 16, 19-20, 28).\u00a0Our salvation is redeemed by the blood of Jesus, and many times our situation is changed by the work of our mighty, protecting God.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Guidance, as He led, provided, and directed Israel (Psalm 107:3-5, 7, 9).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Changing of situations (Psalm 10:24-27, 29-30, 33-38, 41) that hinder His people.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel\u2019s worship songs often were reminders of what they should be appreciative.&nbsp;Although America has a holiday dedicated to being thankful (Thanksgiving Day), ALL people, especially Christians, should be grateful every minute of every day.&nbsp;Just think where we would be if He withdrew His goodness to us.&nbsp;We certainly would be most miserable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Give thanks to the Almighty who has done so much for you. Write on a piece of paper or a blank page at the back of your Bible things for which you are thankful.&nbsp;When times are more challenging, just glancing at those reminders of His goodness to you will help a grateful attitude return to an encouraged spirit. Some even journal all the wonderful things God has done in their lives.&nbsp;We should never forget the mighty help of our God in our lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thank you, Lord!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Today\u2019s Thought:&nbsp;<\/strong><br>\u201cThe worship most acceptable to God comes from a thankful and cheerful heart.\u201d&nbsp;\u2014 Plutarch<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Words to Understand:<\/strong><br>Minished: lessened<br>Redeemed: to purchase; to pay the price for something<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Today\u2019s Reading:<\/strong><br><em>Psalm 107<br>1 O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.<br>2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;<br>3 And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.<br>4 They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.<br>5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.<br>6 Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.<br>7 And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.<br>8 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!<br>9 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.<br>10 \u00b6 Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;<br>11 Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:<br>12 Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.<br>13 Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.<br>14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.<br>15 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!<br>16 For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.<br>17 \u00b6 Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.<br>18 Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.<br>19 Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.<br>20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.<br>21 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!<br>22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.<br>23 \u00b6 They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;<br>24 These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.<br>25 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.<br>26 They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.<br>27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits&#8217; end.<br>28 Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.<br>29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.<br>30 Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.<br>31 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!<br>32 Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.<br>33 \u00b6 He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;<br>34 A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.<br>35 He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.<br>36 And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation;<br>37 And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.<br>38 He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly;
